Can massage improve your body’s overall health?

October 6, 2014

New research shows the many ways in which the varied modalities of massage can improve your health! An article from Alternet.org reveals the latest findings, stating, “For those who are healthy, evidence suggests massage can help you stay healthy. If you’re suffering from a chronic health condition, massage might help reduce pain, minimize anxiety, improve sleep, and more.”

In a recent study, researchers found that after just one 45-minute massage, the levels of cortisol and AVP, the hormones related to stress, declined. They also found that people who have massages tend to have an increase in the number of white blood cells they had, ultimately leading to a lesser likelihood of inflammation and acute infections. It was also discovered that regular massage sessions could alleviate persistent pain associated with conditions from migraines to fibromyalgia. Yet another study found that massage could improve pulmonary function in children with asthma.

These studies all considered the effects and benefits from the various massage modalities.
